walking through the door as a beginner is the hardest part. We make sure you’re guided & equipped to do the rest
The Fear of the "Deep End"
Are you a beginner worried about being thrown into the deep end with a bunch of advanced students?
You are right to be concerned about this. Walking into a martial arts academy for the first time can be intimidating. You might worry about being the only person who doesn’t know the “language,” or worse, being used as a “grappling dummy” by more experienced students. At Carlson Gracie Inland Valley, we understand those fears because many of us—including our founder, Professor Tim Rennick—started exactly where you are today.
Our "no one left behind" Approach
We don’t believe in a “sink or swim” philosophy. Instead, we’ve built an environment where every student, regardless of their starting point, can thrive:
Beginner-Centric Curriculum: Every class we offer covers fundamental material essential for beginners. You won’t be expected to perform complex, acrobatic moves on day one. We focus on the core movements that build a solid foundation.
Customized Learning: We recognize that everyone comes from a different background. Whether you are a former athlete or haven’t broken a sweat in years, we make modifications and accommodations as needed. Our goal is to bring the information within your grasp, adjusting the pace and intensity to fit your current level.
A Culture of Mentorship: You aren’t just joining a gym; you’re joining a team. Our intermediate and advanced students are specifically instructed to ensure you feel welcome. They are equipped to assist you with your learning, acting as partners rather than opponents.
