If you are new to Jiu Jitsu, nervous about starting, or feeling out of shape, know that this is totally normal. Our Fundamentals program in Wildomar is designed specifically to help beginners navigate these early stages safely and confidently. We offer both Gi and No-Gi training in a curriculum that breaks everything down step-by-step, ensuring you understand the mechanics before you apply them. In this welcoming environment, you will never be thrown into the deep end or left to fend for yourself. Instead, you will be guided by expert coaches every step of the way.

Coached By Tim (And Built for Beginners)

Unlike many academies where beginners are handed off to junior instructors, at Carlson Gracie Inland Valley, Tim Rennick is personally on the mats coaching most BJJ sessions. The Fundamentals program reflects his trademark approach: relaxed, highly technical teaching that breaks down complex moves into patient, step-by-step progressions. Tim became a World Champion without ever injuring his teammates, and he brings that exact mindset to our new students. He ensures you are paired with controlled training partners and prioritized for safety and longevity, proving that you can learn fast without ever getting hurt.

What “Fundamentals” Means Here

At Carlson Gracie Inland Valley, “Fundamentals” doesn’t mean a separate “soft class” where you learn watered-down techniques. Instead, we view it as the smartest way to learn the art. We focus on the absolute essentials, mastering core positions and movement, so you understand exactly “what to do first” in any situation. Our coaching is delivered with clear explanations in plain English, avoiding confusing jargon so you can grasp the concepts immediately. Through safe, beginner-friendly drilling and controlled resistance, you will learn what actually works against an opponent. It’s a method designed to help you build real, functional skill without ever getting overwhelmed.

What Your First Class Looks Like

We want your first day to be memorable for the right reasons. When you arrive, you can expect a friendly introduction and a quick tour of the facility so you know exactly where everything is. The class begins with a warmup focused on simple movements to get your body ready, followed by technique taught slowly and with plenty of detail. You will practice these moves through partner drilling with constant coaching to ensure you are doing them correctly. We finish with optional light positional rounds to let you try what you learned. You’ll leave the mats feeling proud of what you accomplished, not smashed.

You Don’t Need to Be Fit to Start

You don’t need to be fit to start; that is what we are here for. Our mats are filled with people from all walks of life, parents, professionals, and people who haven’t done a pushup in years. We specialize in teaching total non-athletes and helping those who were once intimidated by the idea of martial arts. We meet you exactly where you are and help you build from there. So don’t let your current fitness level hold you back; you belong here from day one.

Whether it is Gi Jiu Jitsu or No Gi Jiu Jitsu / Submission Wrestling, the owner Tim is a black belt world champion in both disciplines as well as a former D1 wrestler. He also has a Muay Thai and Wrestling program and you will see his material on BJJ Fanatics. Classes are relaxed and technical and he has an ability as a coach to articulate complex ideas into simple concepts that anyone can grasp. Kids classes are fun and games based. Great gym!

My daughter and son are currently enrolled in Carlson Gracie Inland Valley Jiu Jitsu School. They both enjoy going and practicing with their friends. Plenty of seasoned male and female helpers on hand to guide the young students. Bring plenty of cold water to keep you hydrated. These kids seem to enjoy each other's company, and if they need help or don't fully understand the move they are practicing, just say " Professor " I need some help. and that's what they will get. 👍

I've been training at Carlson Gracie Inland Valley for a little over two years now, along with my daughter(12) and twin boys (10). It has been a tremendous benefit to all of us. Jiu-jitsu is so much more than what you see on the mats. It develops character, perseverance, fortitude, and focus. Professor Tim is a great teacher, patient, detailed, and as passionate as anyone could be about the sport. He makes Jiu-jitsu fun to learn and I'm always excited to go to class. All the guys and gals that train there are great people, super nice and fun to be around. It's a great place to be! There are tons of kids that train there too, and my kids have enjoyed every minute of it. I encourage everyone to come in and take a class and see for yourself, I started at 43 years old and you can too, Jiu-jitsu will take care of the rest!

Professor Tim and all the coaches are fantastic with both the kids and adult classes. Superior instruction, always patient and helpful. The community of other students is incredibly supportive and friendly. Could not recommend highly enough. If you're thinking about signing up, do it today, you'll only regret not doing it sooner. I started with ZERO wrestling or fight experience and training BJJ has now become a huge part of my life. Signing up was one of the best decisions I've ever made for my physical / mental health!

Great learning environment!! My son just started training here this year and immediately loved the sport. Professor Tim is very kind, cares about the kids and is very knowledgeable. All the coaches there have been nothing but amazing. The growth you get to witness in these kids even in a short period of time is undeniable. We were in between this school and another when browsing around, did a trial class at each and I’m extremely happy we chose to be here.

Our son has been training here for two years, and the growth in his confidence, strength, and skill has been incredible. Professor Tim and the coaches are amazing—supportive, disciplined, and truly care about their students. Our son loves every class and has grown so much both on and off the mat. Highly recommend!

While the benefits are numerous, Carlson Gracie Inland Valley has helped my sons build strength, endurance and gave them the confidence to overcome challenges that they didn’t think they could do. They both look forward to grappling because they like to see who is stronger than the other. My kids have stayed committed for the past three years and at times I catch them talking amongst each other about the day they will get their black belt. Although that day is far from here; it has been a great experience so far watching them better themselves. Since day one, Professor Tim along with the rest of the coaches there, have provided my sons with the guidance and motivation to continue on with this life-changing journey.

Carlson Gracie Wildomar offers world-championship instruction and a welcoming atmosphere for kids and adults. Professor Tim is an awesome coach and really pays attention to detail when teaching submissions, take downs or whatever the “move of the day” might be. The people I’ve met have quickly become my friends (even though we’re trying to break each others arms). It truly feels like a home away from home. Whether you’re training for fun or competition, this is the place to be!

I couldn't recommend Carlson Gracie enough! My son started working with coach Tim and his amazing staff 2 years ago, the growth and development he's experienced is worth far more than I can I could possibly articulate. If you're looking for a reasonably priced, clean dojo with an excellent staff then look no further than Carlson Gracie Inland Valley.

Tim is an amazing mentor and teacher! I used to roll with him at CG Temecula as a brand-newbie, which is intimidating for anyone, and being a small woman with zero exposure to martial arts, having people like Tim made the experience amazing and makes people of all walks of life feel welcome. He’s a bada$$ jiu jitsu roller and always made me feel comfortable and taught me so much. People in the jiu jitsu world respect the Carlson Gracie name. If you have the opportunity to train here definitely don’t miss out 👊🏽
