At Carlson Gracie Inland Valley, we believe you’re never too young to start building a resilient mindset. Due to overwhelming demand from local parents and the Wildomar community, we have officially opened our doors to students as young as three years old. We realized that many children were ready for the structure of the mats before they hit school age, and we wanted to provide a space where they could thrive.
Why BJJ Is Amazing for Young Kids
Children aged 3–5 are in a golden window for learning fundamental movement, balance, and social confidence. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the perfect activity for this developmental stage because it engages the mind and body simultaneously. Through our classes, students naturally develop essential physical skills like coordination, body awareness, balance, and agility. Beyond the athletics, we use the mats to teach listening skills, focus, and a deep respect for coaches and classmates. It is a holistic approach that builds healthy routines and discipline, ensuring your child learns these vital life lessons without ever getting hit or hurt.
Gi and No-Gi Classes (Both Are Offered)
To provide a complete martial arts education, we offer both traditional Gi classes and No-Gi sessions for this age group. In our Gi (Uniform) classes, children learn the structure and tradition of Jiu Jitsu. They wear the kimono to master basic grips, learn how to move safely within the uniform, and follow the classic belt progression system. In our No-Gi classes, the focus shifts to athleticism and speed. Without the uniform to hold onto, kids learn a faster-paced wrestling style that emphasizes natural movement, simple takedown games, and quick reactions. Both styles are fun, safe, and age-appropriate—and together, they create a comprehensive foundation for your child’s growth.
Program Focus: The "Three C’s"
Coordination: We use Jiu-Jitsu-based movements and games to develop gross motor skills, balance, and spatial awareness during these critical developmental years.
Concentration: Our curriculum is built around following multi-step directions and staying engaged, helping prepare your child for the classroom environment.
Confidence: By learning how to move their bodies and interact with peers in a safe, supervised setting, our Little Champions develop a ‘can-do’ attitude from day one.
Finding the Right Fit For Your Child
Finding the Right Fit for Your Child We understand that every child develops at their own pace, and scheduling needs vary for every family. Because of this, you will notice an overlap between our 3–5 year old and 4–7 year old programs. This overlap allows us to ensure your child is placed in the environment that best supports their growth.
Whether your child is a mature 4-year-old ready for a faster pace or a 5-year-old who would benefit from more foundational attention, we work with you to find the perfect class time and peer group.
Please Note: Our age groups are not hard set. Class placement is based on each student’s stature, skill acquisition, and ability to follow along in class. Our coaches will personally evaluate each new student to ensure they are in the class where they will be most successful.
