About Carlson Gracie Inland Valley in Wildomar

From a Wake-Up Call to World Championships

Every journey in Jiu Jitsu starts with a “why.” For Tim Rennick, that moment came after a surprise altercation that made him realize he wasn’t as prepared as he thought. At the time, Tim weighed 255 lbs. He walked into his first training session expecting his size and past grappling experience to carry the day—but the mats provide a different kind of truth.

When men 80 lbs lighter controlled and submitted him with effortless technique, Tim didn’t walk away. He got hooked.

That eye-opening experience sparked a total life transformation. Today, Tim is 50 lbs lighter and has moved from a frustrated beginner to a multiple-time Tournament and World Champion. But more importantly, he found a passion that became a family calling.

A Family Dedicated to the Art

Tim isn’t on this journey alone. His wife, LaCheri, is an equally avid practitioner and a vital part of the academy’s heart. Together, they have seen firsthand how Jiu Jitsu builds more than just self-defense skills—it builds confidence, discipline, and a resilient community.

Now, Tim and LaCheri share their insights with the Wildomar, CA community. Whether you are an adult looking to get into “self-defense shape” like Tim once was, or a parent looking to give your child the gift of confidence, the Rennicks offer a unique perspective:

  • Real-World Experience: They know what it’s like to start from scratch.

  • Proven Technique: Their insights are backed by success at the highest levels of international competition.

  • Family-Centered: They believe the mats are a place for everyone to grow, regardless of their starting point.

The Reality of Self-Defense

Most people believe they can handle themselves in a scuffle—until they step onto a Jiu Jitsu mat. It’s a common story: you rely on size, strength, or old instincts, only to find that technique and leverage change the rules of the game.

For many of our students, their first day is a moment where perceptions are abruptly transformed. You realize that true power isn’t about being the biggest person in the room; it’s about the calm, calculated skill that Tim and LaCheri have spent years perfecting.

Transformations are Our Specialty

At our academy, we don’t just teach moves; we facilitate change. We believe that what happens on the mats is a microcosm of life. When you learn to navigate a difficult position during a roll, you learn to navigate stress in the real world.

We focus on the three pillars of the practitioner:

  • The Mind: Developing the focus, patience, and problem-solving skills to stay calm under pressure.

  • The Body: Achieving a level of fitness and functional strength you never thought possible (just ask Tim about his 50lb journey).

  • The Heart: Building the resilience and humility that come from testing yourself every single day.

It Doesn’t Matter Where You Start

Whether you are a professional athlete, a stay-at-home parent, or someone who hasn’t broken a sweat in years, it doesn’t matter what stage of life you’re in. Our programs are purposefully built to meet you where you are and push you toward where you want to be.

We are here to help you do things you never thought possible—from winning your first tournament to simply feeling safe and confident walking down the street. Get in touch and lets start your journey.

Whether it is Gi Jiu Jitsu or No Gi Jiu Jitsu / Submission Wrestling, the owner Tim is a black belt world champion in both disciplines as well as a former D1 wrestler. He also has a Muay Thai and Wrestling program and you will see his material on BJJ Fanatics. Classes are relaxed and technical and he has an ability as a coach to articulate complex ideas into simple concepts that anyone can grasp. Kids classes are fun and games based. Great gym!

My daughter and son are currently enrolled in Carlson Gracie Inland Valley Jiu Jitsu School. They both enjoy going and practicing with their friends. Plenty of seasoned male and female helpers on hand to guide the young students. Bring plenty of cold water to keep you hydrated. These kids seem to enjoy each other's company, and if they need help or don't fully understand the move they are practicing, just say " Professor " I need some help. and that's what they will get. 👍

I've been training at Carlson Gracie Inland Valley for a little over two years now, along with my daughter(12) and twin boys (10). It has been a tremendous benefit to all of us. Jiu-jitsu is so much more than what you see on the mats. It develops character, perseverance, fortitude, and focus. Professor Tim is a great teacher, patient, detailed, and as passionate as anyone could be about the sport. He makes Jiu-jitsu fun to learn and I'm always excited to go to class. All the guys and gals that train there are great people, super nice and fun to be around. It's a great place to be! There are tons of kids that train there too, and my kids have enjoyed every minute of it. I encourage everyone to come in and take a class and see for yourself, I started at 43 years old and you can too, Jiu-jitsu will take care of the rest!

Professor Tim and all the coaches are fantastic with both the kids and adult classes. Superior instruction, always patient and helpful. The community of other students is incredibly supportive and friendly. Could not recommend highly enough. If you're thinking about signing up, do it today, you'll only regret not doing it sooner. I started with ZERO wrestling or fight experience and training BJJ has now become a huge part of my life. Signing up was one of the best decisions I've ever made for my physical / mental health!

Great learning environment!! My son just started training here this year and immediately loved the sport. Professor Tim is very kind, cares about the kids and is very knowledgeable. All the coaches there have been nothing but amazing. The growth you get to witness in these kids even in a short period of time is undeniable. We were in between this school and another when browsing around, did a trial class at each and I’m extremely happy we chose to be here.

Our son has been training here for two years, and the growth in his confidence, strength, and skill has been incredible. Professor Tim and the coaches are amazing—supportive, disciplined, and truly care about their students. Our son loves every class and has grown so much both on and off the mat. Highly recommend!

While the benefits are numerous, Carlson Gracie Inland Valley has helped my sons build strength, endurance and gave them the confidence to overcome challenges that they didn’t think they could do. They both look forward to grappling because they like to see who is stronger than the other. My kids have stayed committed for the past three years and at times I catch them talking amongst each other about the day they will get their black belt. Although that day is far from here; it has been a great experience so far watching them better themselves. Since day one, Professor Tim along with the rest of the coaches there, have provided my sons with the guidance and motivation to continue on with this life-changing journey.

Carlson Gracie Wildomar offers world-championship instruction and a welcoming atmosphere for kids and adults. Professor Tim is an awesome coach and really pays attention to detail when teaching submissions, take downs or whatever the “move of the day” might be. The people I’ve met have quickly become my friends (even though we’re trying to break each others arms). It truly feels like a home away from home. Whether you’re training for fun or competition, this is the place to be!

I couldn't recommend Carlson Gracie enough! My son started working with coach Tim and his amazing staff 2 years ago, the growth and development he's experienced is worth far more than I can I could possibly articulate. If you're looking for a reasonably priced, clean dojo with an excellent staff then look no further than Carlson Gracie Inland Valley.

Tim is an amazing mentor and teacher! I used to roll with him at CG Temecula as a brand-newbie, which is intimidating for anyone, and being a small woman with zero exposure to martial arts, having people like Tim made the experience amazing and makes people of all walks of life feel welcome. He’s a bada$$ jiu jitsu roller and always made me feel comfortable and taught me so much. People in the jiu jitsu world respect the Carlson Gracie name. If you have the opportunity to train here definitely don’t miss out 👊🏽
